May 23 PSU/OHSU IHI Open School Event- Where do YOU fit in Health Care Transformation?

On May 23rd, 2014 the PSU & OHSH IHI Open School Chapter along with the Portland State Pre-Health Society will host an interdisciplinary panelist discussion and networking event focused on engaging students and faculty in a discussion about the role of future health professionals in Oregon’s health care transformation efforts.

Please join us at 4:30pm for a chance to network with health care professionals over complimentary drinks and snacks. The discussion will begin at 5pm with a keynote address followed by panelest and audience responses.

This event will highlight opportunities for student involvement in current and future policy reform efforts. Topics under discussion include:

●What participation responsibilities should current and future health professionals have in changing health policy?
●How can students have a voice in health policy and governance?
●With the many upcoming developments in healthcare, what will the landscape of health professions’ education look like in the future?
●What will the shift of focus towards prevention and wellness imply for health professionals’ training and practice? 

We encourage participants to submit questions for panelists before and during the discussion.

Our expert speakers are:

Keynote Address

Dr. Jeanene Smith, MD, MPH – Chief Medical Officer and Administrator of the Office of Health Policy and Research at the Oregon Health Authority

Panelists

Dr. Jo Isgrigg, Ph.D. – Executive Director at the Oregon Healthcare Workforce Institute –Health Policy Perspective

Noelle Wiggins, EdD, MSPH – Founder and Director of the Community Capacitation Center, Multnomah County Health Department – Community Health Perspective

Judy Ortiz, PA-C, MHS, MS- Director of the School of Physican Assistant Studies at Pacific University – Health Education Perspective

Graham Bouldin, MPH – Sr. Project Manager at Health Share of Oregon – Quality Improvement and Transformation Perspective

Each speaker has been chosen to represent a different perspective on the health workforce both current and future; including perspectives from public policy, community health, health education, and health care transformation efforts.
