We’re Not Done Yet!
When we launched the Archimedes Movement in January 2006, with a bold vision of Oregon leading the way on reform, we knew it would take time. That’s why we focused on building a ‘movement’ not a campaign.
Six Years Later
When the Governor announced that Oregon would receive $1.9 billion dollars to support the development of Coordinated Care Organizations (CCOs), several reporters mentioned that the work began during the 2011 legislative session. But, it began much earlier than that.
An amazing amount of work was done by the OHA and governor’s staff, and this success was augmented by people all around Oregon who understand the nature of the problem and what it will take to launch a new model for care. That is you!
In 2006 we were told that we would not be successful. We began that year by asking 3,000 of you to help shape our shared values around health care and health. Our colleagues disagreed that better health should be our objective; they said we could address health after everyone had insurance. We – and especially you – have influenced the work of the past four legislative sessions, so now:
- The Triple Aim guides the Oregon Health Authority, the Oregon Health Insurance Exchange, and the work around Coordinated Care Organizations;
- Improving health and the systems that cares for people are better linked;
- Health and education reform need to be connected; and
- Public health and community based services are part of the CCO discussions.
Looking Forward
While the focus has been statewide in the past 6 years, with the advent of CCOs (14 possible so far) our work needs to expand. Education, working in coalitions, and supporting local leaders who want to make their communities healthier is going to take more of your support. Your donation allows us to grow to meet these needs.
