I spent a whole day at the Accelerate, Innovate and Motivate (AIM) Conference at the Portland Convention Center.
The presenters reached from the Federal to the State Level and beyond. The central theme was put the “I” back into IT (Information Technology) and introduced by Dr. Mostashari (National Coordinator for HIT). This was the first week the Federal Gov. opened the program which refocuses IT to the Patient (Patient Centric). You can find it at this YouTube link.
The lunch Keynote was by Bruce Goldberg (Director, Oregon Health) on the Acceleration of Health IT and underlying problems it needs to solve and can be found here. It seems we are getting better at getting fat and increasing our healthcare costs. Both are needing to be reduced.
Each participant was given a packet of materials which included an ever increasing list of resources in Oregon alone. A jump drive was also provided to each one of us and a lot of this information can be found here. The AIM business card included WI-FI information with a Logon and Password so we could all connect with AIMOregon network. Are we talking coodinated technology here or what?
Three Panels were formed around the AIM Theme. One on Accelerate, one on Innovate and one on Motivate. The Audience of around 350 was very involved in the Q & A sections and asked a lot of thoughtfull questions. You had to be impressed at the significant movement that has happened over the last year and the increasing speed at which the whole HIT is unfolding. Oregon was mention as one of the leading States in this forward movement.
The Nation wide secure patient exchange program called “Direct” was overviewed and will be available in Oregon in 2012.
I believe there are several ways that WCDB can be involved in this evolving industry and we should have a dedicated meeting on this topic.
