[info_box]UPDATE: Rep. Cannon could not get the signatures required to bring SB 695, which previously passed the Oregon Senate, to the House floor via a discharge petition. However, he and other legislators now have 31 cosponsors for a new bill, HB 3689. It will probably need to go through the House Rules Committee before getting a floor vote. (See Oregonian article.) We’ll keep you posted.[/info_box]

Our Community Leadership Council supports the efforts of Representative Ben Cannon to bring SB 695 to a vote on the House floor. In order for that to happen he needs 31 House members to sign something called a discharge petition that would bring the bill – which has already passed the Senate and the House committee – to a vote on the floor.

BPA (Bisphenol-A) is a toxic chemical linked to severe health and developmental problems in children. SB 695 would make it unlawful to manufacture, distribute, sell or offer for sale child’s beverage container or reusable bottle made or lined with BPA or replacement material that is carcinogenic or is a reproductive toxicant.

Sounds like something we can do to eliminate one more hazardous material away from Oregon’s children.
