Tomorrow is Day One

So, it’s Saturday morning, and if all goes as planned there will be a vote on federal health reform tomorrow. If your email box is anything like mine, you have been inundated with requests to call your congressman and tell them to vote yes because we want health reform now, because 32 million people without insurance can’t wait, because this is historic, and on and on.

We have been waiting since February of last year for Congress to vote on Day One of reforming, or I hope transforming, the US health care system. I call it Day One because this federal reform package is only a beginning step in focusing our health care system on HEALTH.  The bill in front of Congress isn’t perfect, but it puts us in position to have a conversation about Day Two.

Oregon numbers are listed below.) When a bill is eventually signed there will be celebrations and pats on the back, while others will bemoan the future of the country.

The Archimedes Movement will be where it has been for more than four years, advocating for a health system that works for the more than 300 million people who live in this country, that will reduce the per-person cost, will improve the health of our population and where the experience of people in the system is better than it is today. We need a system that is owned by all in this nation, and that has the health of all in mind as each policy change is determined.
