Proposed Organizational Vision
The Archimedes Movement is requesting your input regarding the refinement of our organization's vision - describing what sets us apart and what role we want to play in Oregon and across the nation. This could easily be confused with the founding mission, which describes why we launched the Archimedes Movement, or how we would define a future health system, which we have outlined in our statement of intent, principles, and framework. The organization has now evolved (because of your support) to a point where we need language that can guide the decisions of our Community Leadership Council; language that is tangible enough to make our mission a working reality.
Please take the time to look over the below statement and provide us with your input. Your advice is crucial to the success of the Archimedes Movement and as always, your questions, comments, and critiques are always welcome! You can either make your comments public by responding to this blog, or by sending an email with your response to erick@wecandobetter.org.
On behalf of the numerous people who work tirelessly to reshape health care, thank you so much. It has, and will continue to be, an honor to work with all of you.
Proposed Organizational Vision (draft 7/9/09):
The Archimedes Movement sets the standard for advocates seeking to transform our broken health care system into a world-class, uniquely American system, producing the best possible health for everyone at the least cost and describing this transformation in a way that everyday Americans can understand.
Comparing what's being proposed above to our "Founding Mission" and the original vision as described in the "Statement of Intent"
Founding Mission Statement:
The mission of the Archimedes Movement is to create a new space for civic engagement outside of our traditional legislative and governance structures so that we can work on solutions to the common problems we face. We're starting with the crisis in the U.S. health care system.
Vision Statement describing future health system (originally crafted January - June 2006, later revised and now included in the "Statement of Intent":)
To optimize the health of Oregonians by creating a sustainable system which uses the public resources spent on health care to ensure that everyone has access to a defined set of effective health services.

My input
The Archimedes Movement evaluates, establishes and applies standard principles for advocates seeking to transform our broken health care system into a world-class, uniquely American one. The goal is the best possible population health at the least cost. As a grass roots organization we are dedicated to help motivate and educate a better understanding of the transformation and the role a community can make in its implementation.
