CLC Holds First Meeting - important progress for Archimedes Movement

Submitted by Julie DeLano on Fri, 08/15/2008 - 3:03pm.

The Archimedes Movement Community Leadership Council convened yesterday for their first meeting and made impressive progress in taking the reins to guide the Movement toward revolutionizing the way we think about health and health care in America!

All 18 members attended (in person or by phone). Also present were four AM member guests, staff, and Governor Kitzhaber, who described his vision for an organization that catches fire at the grassroots level and moves the country toward an effective model that measures its success with an improvement in population health. “Moving forward requires that we no longer allow our future to be defined by our past, and I am very optimistic that this group will do exactly that.”

The CLC is in process of establishing their priorities. Front and center is getting the four committees up and running. You can learn more about the committees as they are described in The Structure for Growth and Action (section IV, paragraph 12). If you are interested in learning more about serving on any of these committees, please email julie@wecandobetter.org to let us know.

Kudos to all CLC members for the commitment you have made to serve on this council. Your time, expertise, and passion for the cause is appreciated!

Meeting Notes

As one who was attending the meeting by phone, I felt lost part of the time. As has been reiterated by others, the quality of the sound was not good. The beginning when members gave their backgrounds and goals was outstanding. We have an excellent group to tackle this enormous problem of good health care at a reasonable cost. It's my hope that the next meeting will come through better so I, for one, will be able to participate in the discussions. At the same time, I would like to throw out the idea of possibly holding a future meeting a little closer to the southern end (where I preside). Even Eugene would be easier to get to from Medford. As it is, I am looking foward to our next get together. Milt Rosen
