Save the Date: Join Me on June 14th

Archimedes Movement Plans Inaugural Membership Conference

I want to invite you to join us on June 14th for our First Annual Membership Conference. This event will serve as our "founding convention" as the Archimedes Movement grows as an organization where members play key leadership roles and help to shape policy and direction of the movement.

Our volunteer Interim Steering Committee has drafted a robust structure for community-based decision-making, which we hope to ratify at this meeting. Their proposal is an excellent piece of work which reflects the mission of the Archimedes Movement: to create a new space for civic engagement outside our traditional legislative and governance structures to advance solutions to the common problems we face - starting with the crisis in the U.S. health care system.

This will be a day of hard work as we lay the groundwork for our next steps, but also a time to celebrate our accomplishments, enjoy each other's company and have some fun. I will be participating in the entire day and hope you will come be a part of Archimedes history.

Backed by a generous grant from the Meyer Memorial Trust, we have embarked on a statewide educational effort to reframe the health care debate and to demonstrate why operating within the context and the constraints of the existing structure will not lead us to the solution we seek. It's a tall order but I believe we are up to the task. Reframing the debate will not be accomplished with a slogan, a sound bite or a quick synopsis. It will require education and continued dialog in policy circles and out in communities at the grassroots level.

The structure to be ratified on June 14th will place the grassroots members of the Archimedes Movement in vital roles in leadership and decision-making, as well as in education and outreach.

I hope to see you on June 14th. For more details and to RSVP, please visit our Annual Conference event page.
