Excerpt or Summary

Former Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber made a plea for community action during this week's presentation at Washington Hospital about reforming the health care system, a task he called "the unfinished business of the Baby Boom Generation."

"We (as a society) must agree on a shared vision on what we want the health care system to do (for us)," Kitzhaber, who is a doctor, said during the Tuesday night forum, the first of three being held at Washington this week. "The outcomes we want, the values we want it to reflect — the answer cannot come out of the political process."
