The Archimedes Movement is committed to creating opportunities for meaningful engagement. We firmly believe that we as a people can do better. We hope to recognize our common difficulties and promote the common good – to contribute to the things that make Oregon a great place to live, and solve the problems we all face. This is the overriding aim of the Archimedes Movement. And the first challenge we'll tackle is the growing crisis in our health care system, and to that end the Archimedes Movement launched WeCanDoBetter.org.
With the participation of Oregonians from all around the state and under the leadership of former Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber MD, we crafted a policy objective and a set of principles for health care in Oregon. The movement serves as a catalyst to drive the national debate on health care that we so desperately need.
The policy objective of the Archimedes Movement causes debate – but at least it's a debate about substance, about an issue that touches all of us and connects us to each other.
WeCanDoBetter.org is taking that debate throughout Oregon and beyond its borders, creating opportunities for citizens to be part of positive, long-lasting, cost-effective change in health care. Through community engagement, both online and face-to-face, this is a vehicle through which the growing concern over the U.S. health care system can be channeled into effective action – not only in creating the vision for a more equitable and sustainable system – but in building the tension necessary for the realization of that vision.
